Animal Farm Thesis: Mollie has an evil side

We had to do an analysis of a thesis concerning the novel "Animal Farm" from George Orwell, which we've read in class. So here is mine (Xenia):

Mollie has an evil side

In Orwell’s novel Animal Farm exists a very extraordinary animal. It is Mollie, the horse with the evil side.

Mollie is a gorgeous white mare and the favourite animal of Mr. Jones. She is spoilt and narcissistic and the only thing she can think of is her beauty. Mollie is hooked on ribbons and always wants to wear them. She is so fixed on her appearance and always celebrates her beauty that it is a real obsession.

When the day arrives that Mollie has to work, she decides to leave the farm secretly, because she doesn’t want to work at all, but keep her high standard of living and luxury. In my opinion she has quite a mean character, because she turns her back on the other animals, even though they probably need her help and hurts her friends by going to their greatest enemies – the human beings. This behaviour is selfish and shows her evil side very well. In her eyes the only thing, which is important enough to take care of, is herself. She doesn’t hesitate to change sides when she sees the advantages for her.

Because Mollie is so beautiful no one would ever think that she has an evil side. She distracts the other animals with her beauty from her real character and her mean heart. But just because someone is beautiful outside doesn’t mean that this person is also beautiful inside.

Finally a new post

Hi everyone

We just noticed that it has been a very long time since someone posted something here.
So here's what we did (that's especially for you now Daria ;)):
We had to interview a native English speaker and now we have to write a short article about him or her.
We, Alex, Poorvi and Lena W., interviewed Lena's neighbour. His name is Rudolph Bader and he is Swiss but also a professor of English literature, so his English is naturally very good. He's retired now and writes his own novels. Half of the year he lives in his house on the south coast of England and the other half in Wil in Switzerland.
Here's a small extract from our interview. Try to guess who asks the question :P

You find the extract on BSCW in the folder for English :)

See ya

NOT a last post (:

Hy guys

It makes me feeling strange if your all talking about the big meeting again. I could never think about going home now, my exchange is just about to get really fun and I can now enjoy everything more and more since I now speak Icelandic and know a lot of people. I really would like to see you guys all again, but for me it's no problem to wait until august (I'm coming home on 30th of July) because I know, that I'll see you after this every day for two more years and that's unfortunately not the same with my friends here in Iceland. So I really hope for Lena, Vanessa, Lara and Leana that it isn't too hard to go home for you, because I could never finish my exchange now!
I do know Vanessas' problem more than well. I also started mixing up all the languages, because I'm still often speaking English with exchange students, sometimes German with foreigners here and also French. And it happend a few times to me, that I had to translate a word from Icelandic into German while writing an e-mail in German. So I might speak Icelandic with you by accident, you can prepare for that :P

My school started again two weeks ago after a really long Christmas break. It was strange to start the 'normal life' again, but since I don't have to work anything for school if I don't feel like working that's alright. I also have 25 hours school per week, which is kind a lot here. So I always have a lot time to meet up with friends and do whatever I want to do.
We don't really have vacation -two days- but instead we finish school in end of april.
You see I live quite a different life here than your used in the south but I'm really enjoying that. I have much more time to do things I like and also to find out, what I do like and maybe should do more often.

We now started to read a new book in English, The Hobbit. We have a new teacher and also looked at some terms like protagonist and antagonist but we still only read the book at home and answer questions about the content. As much as I hear from you isn't that comparable with how you read books.

I don't really know, what else I should tell you, there are so many things I don't know where to start. But if you want to know something you can always ask me and it's always nice to hear from people back in Switzerland but I don't get angry when I don't answer immediately but I have often better things to do than sitting on the computer..

this is my favourite work of art and I shows the character of Reykjavík, there are also other funny things like a mini-library in a park where you can take a book but if you take one, you also have to bring one back (:

Another last post

Hi there

Now it's my turn to write one last post before we all meet again. Only four days to go and then I'm back home in Switzerland.
It's unbelievable how fast the time has gone.
Here, it doesn't really feel like winter, it's more like we're stuck in autumne and thta makes it even more unbelievable... It's already January and the 5 months are gone.
I'm really looking forward to see you all again and habe fun with you.
In the last few weeks, there were suddenly so many things going on and it felt like I did more in those three weeks, than in the whole time before :P
For example I could take part in an athletics competition (what a surprise :P) or I went to the pantomime with Millie from Athletics (that's like a theatre for children, but a lot of adults go as well and it was sooo funny).
On my last weekend I could finally visit Oxford and it was definitely worth it. It's an amazing city and I recommend it to everybody!
That's the room, which was the inspiration for Hogwarts.

Now it's time to pack my suitcase and I don't know yet how to manage it... :P
But somehow it will work and I'll see you soon.

For a last time a lot of greetings from Wolverhampton
Lena

Just about to come back-

Hey there :)

It isn't that long until we'll see each other again (except Daria) but I just thought I could post a last post before I come home. It is quiet weird to think about coming back-I think it's just because I didn't really realized yet that I'm actually coming back-
Sometimes when I hear myself speaking in swiss german, I feel kind of strange because I'm just not use to it any longer. It happened more than once the last few weeks that I couldn't remember the swissgerman term for something, but the english one when I was speaking swiss german. That kind of frightens me xD And I bet you will have some situations to laugh about my german vocabulary when I'll be back (but I still guess/hope that it won't just be me with difficulties in the german language xD as we will be 4 returning exchange students :))

A little thing about the british money which I found quiet cool; if you put the 1,2,5,10,20 and 50 pennies all together in the correct order they build a shield :) This shield is as a whole shield also found on the one pound coin. A cool fact I think :P

So see you in about two weeks again then :)

13th to 17th January

Hi everyone!
First of all it's great to hear that you all have a really good time in UK, US & Iceland! Enjoy your last weeks/month, we are SUPER excited to welcome you back in our class. :)

We had a quite stressful week because of exams, but knowing in two weeks we have holidays again make things a little bit easier ;)
In English half-classes we discussed about Chapter 7 of Animal Farm, which is a very bloody and cruel chapter but also interesting in terms of how the animals' lives have changed since their rebellion against the humans.
On Tuesday the lesson was cancelled because our poor Miss was sick.
Today we had our normal lesson; Miss Nyffenegger gave us information about the CAE and CPE (Cambridge English: Advanced/Proficiency) a certificate that many of us consider to prepare for. Deadline for sign up is on 23rd January by the way. ;)
The rest of the lesson we had to read our self-written house advertisements. We had to use fancy words while writing, that means no nice/beautiful/big but words more like gorgeous, magnificent or spacious.
This should help us to learn new words and extend our vocabulary.

Today sports class was cancelled because of the floorball (Unihockey)-Mittelschulmeisterschaft that takes place at KSWE. Jana and Alexandra are participating in the tournament in the woman-team of Wettingen. And of course we are good class mates and cheer for the team! ;)

Our sporty Alexandra&Jana and Danilo&Noah who had to count the points ;D

I wish you a nice weekend! - My-Nhien

Holidays are over...

Hey everyone!

It's the end of the first week after Christmas break and therefore our turn to write the blog entry. :-)

First of all, we're so glad that days are finally getting longer. Good bye, darkness!^^ School started rather differently depending on subjects. Some were easy going like English for example. We talked about what we were doing during the holidays and apart from doing some exercises we watched the short-film "Dinner for One", which was really cool! However, in other classes we got back some of the exams we had written before the holidays. And in Biology we even had one yesterday. :-(

Anyway, it was nice to meet everbody again in the new year.

Greetings,
Nicole & Xenia
